Chapter Seven
Ramseyâs first sight upon waking was of a stack of clothes folded on top of a pair of hiking boots. Though heâd been the one to wash the shirt, jeans, underwear, and socks last night, Till must have gotten them off the line and put them there when he got up this morning. It seemed like a hint that Ramsey should get dressed first thing.
He might not have thought much of it if not for the fact Till had asked him how he was feeling last night. Theyâd commented on how Ramseyâs bruising was nearly gone and that his ankle hardly twinged at all anymore. With his things presented like this, now he had to wonder if Till had been politely inquiring as to when his houseguest might leave.
They hadnât talked about the future, but Ramsey had honestly been mulling over what it might mean if he stayed here. Heâd be giving up a comfortable teaching job, a decent apartment in the city, and all the ease and convenience of modern life. He was well aware that his passion had always been in understanding Bigfoot, so although he was a good professor of anthropology, his heart wasnât completely in it anymore. Not now that he knew Till. To go back to teaching about human evolution without ever mentioning Bigfoot would be torturous.
He knew too much.
It was the people in his life that heâd miss the most. His mentor, Dr. Howard Edmondson, was a good friend and one of the few who knew about Ramseyâs intense interest in Bigfoot. Howard had never belittled him or even mildly scoffed at him for believing in Bigfoot or using his vacation days to search for evidence. Support like that was rare, but Howard believed in doing what you loved without apology, and he enjoyed listening to Ramseyâs theories and stories.
His home, his material possessions, meh. He could live without most of that. Heâd love to have a real toilet seat and he couldnât abandon the mantel clock that had been passed down through six generations. But the rest seemed terribly superficial now that he knew he could be happy without it all.
And he was happy. Living here with Till was an adventure every day, even when all they did was chores, cooking, eating, and sleeping. And sex. Lordy, they were getting really good at that. All Till had to do was smirk at him, and Ramsey got undressed in a flash, hard and desperate that quickly. That kind of desire, of compatibility, wasnât so easy to come by as far as Ramseyâs dating history went. They fit, they fit well, andâ¦he was falling in love.
Wow. Yeah, he was falling in love with Till.
So Ramsey got up, used the bathroom, and then dressed with a determination settling over him. If Till was out there expecting that Ramsey was well enough to go back to the modern world, if Till thought that Ramsey wanted to leave, then Ramsey would just have to convince Till that theyâd both be better off if he stayed.
